State of Emergency for the City of Shreveport

WHEREAS, the City of Shreveport finds itself in an emergency situation as a result of the severe weather which struck the City on June 16, 2023, resulting in thousands of downed trees and the loss of electrical power to thousands of homes and businesses; and

WHEREAS, this situation has resulted in a significant threat to the lives and property of the residents of Shreveport; and

WHEREAS, this threat requires that all available emergency measures must be taken to mitigate and recover from this threat.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tom Arceneaux, Mayor of the City of Shreveport, by authority vested in me by the City Charter and the laws of the State of Louisiana, do hereby proclaim that a state of emergency has existed on the City of Shreveport since Friday, June 16, 2023,supplementing to any extent necessary the process and authority pursuant to declarations of emergency by Caddo Parish and the Governor of the State of Louisiana, and that all emergency powers necessary to respond to the threats posed by this severe storm and to restore the City of Shreveport to the conditions that existed prior to the storm be herein authorized and placed into effect.

Issued on this 19th day of June, 2023 and effective retroactively to June 16, 2023.
