Westside, LA - River Parishes Community College (RPCC) hosted Rougarou Rendezvous with Dow on Saturday, June 25th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Westside Campus.
The Rougarou Rendezvous event was sponsored by Dow and consisted of games, music, free food, bounce houses, giveaways, educational resources and more. The community had the opportunity to learn about certifications in welding, electrical, millwright, pipefitting, and more in the industrial field, as well as the certified nursing assistant (CNA) program in the medical field. One could also learn about RPCC’s degree programs, high school equivalency tests and employment opportunities.
“The ‘Rougarou Rendezvous,’ sponsored by our friends at Dow, is all about celebrating this community and the opportunities here,” said Jessica Abernathy, RPCC’s Interim Director for the Westside Campus. “We’ll have summer fun and games, including bounce houses for the kids and lunch from our neighbors at Riverside Specialty Meats & Seafood and S.A.B.’s Snowball Shoppe. Join us to learn more about what RPCC Westside offers – including everything from training in welding to CNA, free high-school-equivalency classes, and more – and resources and employment opportunities here in Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes. Everything is free and open to the public, so we hope to see you there!”
At this event, there were opportunities to apply to the college in-person with the help of the recruitment and admissions department. There was also a chance to learn about scholarships like the MJ Foster Promise Program.
“RPCC’s Rougarou Rendezvous is a great opportunity for the community to visit the campus and learn about the educational opportunities offered here in Plaquemine,” said Lillie Murphy, RPCC’s Foundation Director. “It should be great fun as well! We can’t thank Dow enough for making this event possible. RPCC works very closely with Dow and our other great industry and business partners to make sure that our graduates have employment opportunities locally. We hope everyone comes out to see the campus, enjoy some great food and activities and meet the RPCC team.”
