House Republicans have unanimously re-elected Speaker Johnson to lead the House Republican Conference and continue his role as the 56th Speaker of the House for the 119th Congress. Speaker Johnson emphasized the unity and energy within the conference, stating, "We have to deliver for the American people beginning on day one in the new Congress, and we will be ready for that."
In addition to re-electing Speaker Johnson, House Republicans selected Rep. Steve Scalise as Majority Leader, Rep. Tom Emmer as Majority Whip, Rep. Lisa McClain as Conference Chairwoman, Rep. Richard Hudson as NRCC Chairman, Rep. Blake Moore as Conference Vice Chairman, Rep. Kevin Hern as Conference Policy Chair, and Rep. Erin Houchin as Conference Secretary.
Speaker Johnson expressed optimism about the future during a press event following leadership elections: "It is a new day in America." He noted that President Trump visited and delivered an inspirational message emphasizing unity within the leadership team.
Johnson highlighted several concerns voiced by Americans nationwide, including cost of living, border security, global instability, and opposition to what he described as a "radical, progressive, woke agenda." He stated that Republicans are prepared to address these issues with solutions.
As preparations for the new Congress continue with orientation for incoming members set to begin in January 2024, Speaker Johnson reiterated commitment to fulfilling promises made to the American people alongside President Trump.
