Today, Speaker Johnson welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the United States Capitol for a meeting focused on the US-Israel relationship. During their joint remarks, Speaker Johnson expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Netanyahu for his dedication to global safety.
“With President Trump back in the White House and Republican control of Congress, America will not turn its back on our national security priorities,” Speaker Johnson stated. “Our support for Israel remains ironclad.”
Speaker Johnson emphasized the significance of the US-Israeli partnership, highlighting that his first legislative act as speaker was reaffirming America's commitment to Israel's security. He also noted the importance of security assistance funding provided to Israel.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for both leaders to discuss their countries' special partnership and regional safety challenges. Speaker Johnson commended Prime Minister Netanyahu's efforts over recent months.
“What Israel has done in the past seven months really is a testament to what can be accomplished when we do not let the enemy set the rules,” said Speaker Johnson.
He reiterated sentiments shared by Prime Minister Netanyahu earlier in the week about maintaining strong ties between Israel and the United States. "When our enemies see daylight between Israel and the United States, they will exploit it," he quoted.
Both leaders agreed that peace is achieved through strength rather than appeasement or neglecting allies. The conversation also touched upon President Trump's actions before taking office, including securing a ceasefire agreement and addressing threats from Iran.
“Our support for Israel remains ironclad," concluded Speaker Johnson, expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit.
