Speaker Johnson issued a statement following the passage of H.R. 21, known as the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act, by House Republicans. The legislation was met with opposition from all but one House Democrat. In a recent Senate vote, every Senate Democrat also opposed the bill.

"The Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act is a matter of common sense and human dignity," said Speaker Johnson. "Basic morality demands that a doctor provide medical care to a child born alive during an attempted abortion, just as they would for any child born prematurely."

Johnson criticized House Democrats for their stance on the bill, stating, "Tragically, House Democrats opposed the bill, voted for infanticide, and opted to deny medical care to crying newborns on operating tables struggling to live." He emphasized his belief that "every newborn child deserves to be protected."

The act has sparked significant debate between parties regarding its implications and moral considerations.
