Speaker Mike Johnson is inviting high school students from Louisiana's Fourth Congressional District to participate in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. This annual event offers a platform for young artists to display their talents on a national stage.
The competition selects one piece of artwork from each congressional district across the nation, which will then be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol Building. The winning artist will be recognized at an award ceremony in Washington, D.C., during the summer of 2025. Second and third place selections will be showcased in Speaker Johnson’s congressional offices, with all winners honored at a reception in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District office.
This year's theme, "The Spirit of Louisiana," aims to inspire participants to highlight the state's history, heritage, and people through their art.
Entries must adhere to specific guidelines: artworks can measure up to 26 inches by 26 inches, with a depth not exceeding 4 inches and weight under 15 pounds. The winning piece must arrive framed without exceeding these dimensions.
Acceptable mediums include paintings (oil, acrylics, watercolor), drawings (pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink), collages (two-dimensional), prints (lithographs, silkscreen), mixed media (using more than two mediums), computer-generated art, and photography.
Participants should submit their entries by April 17, 2025. More information is available on Speaker Johnson’s website or by contacting his Bossier City Office at 318-840-0309.
"The Spirit of Louisiana" theme encourages students to celebrate the state's unique culture through their artistic expression.
