Speaker Johnson and the House Republican Conference have announced plans to establish a new select subcommittee for the 119th Congress. This initiative aims to continue investigating the events leading up to and following January 6.

The subcommittee will be chaired by Representative Barry Loudermilk of Georgia's 11th district. It will function as a Select Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Representative Jim Jordan from Ohio's 4th district.

In his statement, Speaker Johnson expressed pride in the work done so far by House Republicans in challenging what he described as "false narratives" presented by the January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress. He emphasized that more work remains to uncover "the full truth that is owed to the American people." Details regarding the composition and other aspects of the new subcommittee are expected to be announced soon.

Chairman Jordan stated, "Rep. Loudermilk has been the leader in getting to the bottom of what the Democrat-led January 6 Committee failed to uncover, and we look forward to helping him bring all the facts to the American people."

Subcommittee Chairman Loudermilk expressed his honor at being tasked with continuing this investigation. He remarked on what he views as a series of intelligence, security, and leadership failures at multiple levels within various entities that led to the breach of the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Loudermilk conveyed appreciation for Speaker Johnson’s commitment and looked forward to collaborating with Chairman Jim Jordan. His goal is to uncover all relevant facts and initiate necessary reforms to prevent similar security failures in the future.
