Speaker Johnson has appointed Representative Rick Crawford from Arkansas's 1st district as the new Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for the 119th Congress. This appointment was announced in Washington.

In a statement, Speaker Johnson emphasized the importance of oversight in intelligence matters, especially given current global tensions. "In an increasingly dangerous world with hot wars around the globe, multi-faceted threats from China, and terrorists within our borders, the mission of our intelligence community is vitally important," he stated. He stressed Congress's duty to ensure that intelligence systems protect national interests while adhering to constitutional principles.

Johnson expressed confidence in Crawford's leadership abilities. "The House Intel Committee will play a pivotal role in this work in the new Congress, and Rick Crawford will provide principled leadership as its chairman," he said. Johnson praised Crawford for his service on the committee and his approach to national challenges.

Acknowledging outgoing Chairman Mike Turner's contributions during his tenure, Johnson remarked: "Outgoing Chairman Mike Turner deserves our gratitude for his leadership and critical work in the 118th Congress." Turner is recognized for his continued efforts towards American safety and global security as Chair of the U.S. Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence oversees activities related to U.S. government intelligence and military programs. The newly appointed committee members include Vice Chairman Rep. Trent Kelly, along with Representatives Darin LaHood, Brian Fitzpatrick, Austin Scott, French Hill, Dan Crenshaw, Ronny Jackson, Scott Perry, Ann Wagner, Ben Cline, Greg Steube, Claudia Tenney, and Pat Fallon.
