Speaker Johnson has appointed Representative Virginia Foxx to lead the House Rules Committee for the 119th Congress. The announcement was made on January 14, 2025.

In a statement, Speaker Johnson praised Dr. Foxx's long-standing service in the House: "For two decades, Dr. Foxx has been a stalwart in the House and a leader in multiple policy areas. Her drive and personality have established her as among the most universally respected members of our Republican Conference. Dr. Foxx is an example of how Members should serve, and our Conference will benefit greatly with her at the helm of the influential Rules Committee."

The Rules Committee plays a crucial role in shaping legislation before it reaches the House floor by setting terms for debate.
