Today, Speaker Johnson addressed the recent sentencing decision in a case involving President Trump. A judge in New York ruled for Trump's unconditional release, prompting Johnson to issue a statement criticizing the legal proceedings.

Johnson described the case as "a politically motivated and contrived witch hunt aimed solely at preventing him from returning to the White House." He argued that it was not based on facts and should not have been initiated. He accused Judge Merchan of manipulating existing law to escalate a misdemeanor charge into a felony, calling it a partisan effort.

He further criticized what he termed as "the deranged prosecution" for causing harm to the justice system. Despite these criticisms, Johnson noted that "the only jury that matters – the American people – saw through this corruption of justice."

Looking ahead, Johnson emphasized the importance of restoring trust in the justice system after what he referred to as four years of lawfare. He expressed support for Trump's decision to appeal, aiming to move past what he called "this shameful chapter in American history."
