Speaker Johnson appeared on Fox Business with Larry Kudlow to discuss the upcoming Speaker vote and the importance of Republican unity in advancing President Trump's agenda. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow, and Johnson expressed optimism about its outcome.
"I think we get it done on the first round," said Johnson. He emphasized the need for Republicans to work together due to operating with a narrow margin in Congress. "It necessitates that every single Republican... can put aside their personal preferences every day and work together for the team."
Johnson highlighted his role as a unifying figure within the party, describing himself as both a "proven fighter" and someone capable of bringing together diverse members of the House GOP. He underscored the urgency of delivering on an America-first agenda.
In terms of maintaining Republican unity, Johnson shared positive feedback from discussions with colleagues. He noted that many members are engaging thoughtfully in efforts to improve processes and adapt to a new political environment. "We're going to have a unified government," he stated, noting that 60% of House Republicans have not previously experienced such conditions.
Johnson stressed the necessity of quickly addressing President Trump's agenda once Congress convenes. "You have to have a speaker to begin and commence the Congress itself," he explained, expressing confidence in launching what he believes could be one of the most consequential sessions in modern history.
