Speaker Johnson has expressed condolences following the death of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100. In a statement released from Washington on December 29, 2024, Speaker Johnson highlighted Carter's significant contributions to peace and housing.

"Today, the thoughts of Americans and the prayers of Congress are lifted up on behalf of the Carter family," said Speaker Johnson. He noted that Carter's journey from humble beginnings exemplified the opportunities available in America.

Carter is remembered for his pivotal role in negotiating the Camp David Accords and his long-term involvement with Habitat for Humanity. "Because of his work in brokering the Camp David Accords and his advocacy with Habitat for Humanity, the world is a more peaceful place, and more Americans have a place to call home," Johnson stated.

Speaker Johnson concluded by honoring Carter's life dedicated to service: "No one can deny that President Carter led an extraordinary life of service to his country. May he rest in peace."
