Today, a comprehensive report on artificial intelligence was presented to Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries by the bipartisan House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. The report outlines guiding principles and recommendations for advancing America's leadership in AI innovation.
Speaker Mike Johnson stated, "Because advancements in artificial intelligence have the potential to rapidly transform our economy and national security, Leader Jeffries and I established the Bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence to ensure America continues leading in this strategic arena." He emphasized the importance of developing a bipartisan vision for AI adoption, innovation, and governance.
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries highlighted Congress's role in ensuring safe AI adoption. "The development and safe adoption of artificial intelligence holds great promise to make a positive difference in the lives of the American people," he said. He expressed hope that the report would guide future legislative actions.
Chairman Jay Obernolte (R-Ca.) remarked on his leadership role in producing the report: "It has been my honor to lead the House AI Task Force in producing this detailed, forward-thinking, and bipartisan report." He noted that it provides a roadmap for safeguarding consumers while fostering U.S. investment and innovation in AI.
Co-Chair Ted Lieu (D-Ca.) commented on the collaborative effort behind the report: "The bipartisan House AI Task Force report provides a foundation both to ensure that America leads in AI innovation and to ensure that we have appropriate guardrails to protect Americans." He acknowledged the challenges posed by differing political views within the task force but praised their shared vision for protecting people and promoting innovation.
The task force was established in February by Speaker Johnson and Leader Jeffries. It includes members from key committees, jointly led by Chairman Jay Obernolte (R-Ca.) and Co-Chair Ted Lieu (D-Ca.).
