Speaker Johnson addressed Congress's duty to ensure election security and maintain government funding in interviews with Fox News and CNBC. He emphasized the need for a six-month spending measure to prevent noncitizen voting and avoid a government shutdown.
"Listen, Congress has an immediate obligation to do two very important things. We have to keep the government funded, and we need to make sure that our elections are secure," Johnson stated. "We're moving legislation today to have a continuing resolution to keep the government going for six months and to make sure that illegals cannot vote, noncitizens cannot vote in the upcoming election."
Johnson also outlined the GOP's economic agenda, advocating for less regulation and lower taxes. "We implement the principles and the policies that we've always espoused, and that is less regulation and lower taxes," he said. He criticized federal agencies under the Biden-Harris Administration for hindering free market activities.
"If you get Republican leadership in the White House, the Senate, and the House, unified government, we will put this thing on turbo," Johnson remarked. He predicted significant regulatory reforms if Republicans gain control.
Regarding the Task Force Investigating President Trump's assassination, Johnson discussed ensuring adequate protection for Trump. "I called and demanded that President Trump receive the same level of protection that the sitting president does," he mentioned. He noted discussions with both Trump and the White House about addressing potential manpower issues within the Secret Service.
"We're looking at every aspect of this. If we need to add additional funding, we will," Johnson added.
