Speaker Johnson recently appeared on Squawk Box to discuss President Biden's stance on Israel, the rising issue of antisemitism on college campuses, and the proposed SAVE Act.
Regarding President Biden's approach towards Israel, Johnson expressed concern. "What the President is doing here is not only defying the will of Congress... But he's also trying to dictate, I guess, and micromanage the war, the defense effort in Israel," he said. Johnson claimed that this move by Biden was not just a policy misstep but also a political calculation. He criticized Biden for his reluctance to unequivocally condemn antisemitism and to clearly distinguish between right and wrong.
On the topic of antisemitism on college campuses, Johnson highlighted that Congress had launched an effort involving six committees to examine this issue from all angles. He expressed deep concern about universities receiving billions in taxpayer funds while failing to uphold basic constitutional rights and ensure student safety. "They are kowtowing to the violent protest, and they are ignoring the rights and the civil rights of their students who pay tuition," he noted.
Discussing the SAVE Act, Johnson alleged that President Biden and Mayorkas engineered an open border policy with a hidden agenda. "They've allowed... about 16 million illegals since Joe Biden walked into the Oval Office three and a half years ago." He suggested that this was done with an intention to turn these individuals into voters and influence future census results. The SAVE Act aims to address this issue by enforcing existing federal law which prohibits non-citizens from voting in US elections.
Johnson concluded by saying that it would be surprising if Democrats voted against this bill. He emphasized that a significant majority of Americans believe only US citizens should vote in US elections.
