Caddo Parish, LA – Veterans in northwest Louisiana can now receive assistance with their veterans benefits and services in a newly rebuilt facility, thanks to the Parish of Caddo. A ribbon cutting and rededication ceremony for the new facility will take place on Friday, October 14 at 10:00am at the Parish’s Veterans Service Office, 1031 Creswell Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana.
Originally constructed and opened in 2011, the Parish’s Veterans Service and Adult Drug Court building sustained major damage as a result of Hurricane Laura in 2020. The Office is a valuable resource to area veterans and their families by serving as a clearinghouse to help access a wealth of veteran benefits such as burials, educational opportunities, pensions, military honors and more.
“When Hurricane Laura damaged the Parish’s facility in 2020, rebuilding the office smarter and stronger than before became one of our top priorities,” said Parish of Caddo Administrator Dr. Woody Wilson, Jr. “The Veterans Services Office fills a critical need by serving some of our area’s most honored citizens, our veterans. We consider it the highest privilege to restore this building and its purpose for those who have served our country so valiantly,” said Wilson.
This new facility is a testament to the commitment of Caddo Parish's philosophy in providing the best services and resources for our Veterans,” said District 12 Commissioner and Veterans Affairs and Services committee chair Ken Epperson, Sr.
The ceremony will feature Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Col. Joey Strickland as the guest speaker, with a formal ribbon cutting and tours of the facility to follow. The event is open to the public, and veterans and servicemembers are encouraged to attend.
