Speaker Mike Johnson, a U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 4th district since 2017, recently shared several updates on his social media accounts highlighting developments in trade, tax policy, and efforts to combat antisemitism.
On January 8, 2026, Johnson posted about changes in the U.S. trade deficit, attributing the shift to former President Trump’s policies. He wrote: “Thanks to President Trump, other countries are NOT taking advantage of America anymore. HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT: The U.S. trade deficit with countries just fell to its LOWEST level since 2009. This didn’t happen by accident. President Trump’s trade agenda is delivering real” (January 8, 2026).
Later that day, Johnson commented on upcoming economic measures intended to benefit American households. In a post referencing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and new tax legislation, he stated: “Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it best: 2025 set the table — the feast comes in 2026. The Working Families Tax Cut is going to hit paychecks, boost household budgets, deliver record tax refunds, and help communities across the country. Americans are going to feel the” (January 8, 2026).
On January 9, Johnson highlighted an act of bravery by Ahmed Al-Ahmed during an antisemitic attack in Australia and called for continued opposition to antisemitism: “It was my honor to welcome Ahmed Al-Ahmed to the Capitol today. Ahmed is the brave hero who stopped the vicious antisemitic terrorist attacker in Australia on the first night of Hanukkah. He is still recovering from his wounds. Antisemitism must be confronted and defeated” (January 9, 2026).
Johnson has served as a member of Congress since replacing John Fleming in Louisiana’s 4th district and previously held office in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. Born in Shreveport in 1972 and currently residing in Benton at age 51, Johnson holds both undergraduate and law degrees from Louisiana State University.
