Speaker Mike Johnson, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 4th district since 2017, has recently used his social media platform to comment on legislative developments and government operations. In a series of posts made on November 16 and 17, 2025, Johnson addressed tax legislation, congressional procedures, and the resolution of a government shutdown.
On November 16, Johnson criticized Senate Democrats for removing provisions from the Working Families Tax Cut. He stated: “The Working Families Tax Cut saved taxpayers $185 BILLION and lowered premiums — and our House version would’ve cut premiums ANOTHER 13% nationwide. But Senate Democrats REMOVED that provision, snatching money out of the American people’s pockets to protect the broken system”.
Later that day, he commented on congressional procedure reforms: “Good news for every American taxpayer: regular order is FINALLY being restored. That means greater transparency, fiscal discipline, and responsibility over taxpayer dollars. For the FIRST TIME in years, Congress is actually doing the work the way the system was designed —”.
On November 17, Johnson referenced recent developments regarding a government shutdown: “The Democrat Shutdown has been ended by Republicans. During the longest shutdown in U.S. history, Democrats held America hostage for NOTHING. Republicans fought to reopen the government for the people, and we succeeded.”
Mike Johnson has served in Congress since replacing John Fleming in 2017 and previously held office in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. Born in Shreveport in 1972 and currently residing in Benton, Johnson holds both a BA and JD from Louisiana State University.
