Speaker Mike Johnson, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 4th district since 2017, used his social media platform on November 18, 2025, to criticize Democrats over the recent government shutdown and their handling of the Epstein files.

In a post made at 17:57 UTC, Johnson wrote, “The harm caused by the 43-day Democrat Shutdown won’t be forgotten:

Over a million people missed paychecks
$10+ billion in wages & benefits withheld
Thousands of flight delays and cancellations
BILLIONS of dollars lost from our economy

All of this so that”.

Later that day, at 19:00 UTC, Johnson continued his criticism while outlining Republican efforts on government funding: “Republicans will continue our work to keep reducing prices and finish the regular order government funding process — and we’re working around the clock to get it done.

Meanwhile, Democrats solely focused on a political SHOW VOTE on the Epstein files. After FOUR YEARS of doing”.

At 21:01 UTC on November 18, Johnson further addressed Democratic actions regarding the Epstein files: “Washington Democrats oversaw the Epstein files for FOUR YEARS. They didn’t release them. They didn’t push Biden’s DOJ for action. They DIDN’T LIFT A FINGER for the victims.

So why now?

Because Democrats don’t have a platform or a principle left to defend — so they’ve defaulted”.

Mike Johnson has served in Congress since replacing John Fleming in Louisiana’s 4th district in 2017. He previously held office in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. Born in Shreveport in 1972 and currently residing in Benton, Johnson earned both his BA and JD from Louisiana State University by 1998.
