Speaker Mike Johnson, currently representing Louisiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017 and a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, recently shared updates on social media regarding immigration enforcement, military base naming, and tax policy. Johnson, born in Shreveport in 1972 and residing in Benton, has been active in public service for over a decade.
On July 14, 2025, Johnson highlighted a recent Department of Homeland Security operation at a Los Angeles marijuana facility. He stated that “DHS’s operation at an LA marijuana facility resulted in: – 14 migrant minor children rescued – 361 illegal aliens arrested, including violent criminals with convictions for rape, burglary, and DUIs – More attacks on ICE and CBP It is shocking that Democrats are somehow confused”.
Later that day, Johnson commented on the renaming of Fort Polk. In his words posted on July 14, 2025: “Thanks to @POTUS, Fort Polk’s name has been restored! Through this critically important base in Vernon Parish, we will honor the life and heroism of General James H. Polk, who was awarded the Silver Star during World War II.”
In another post from July 14, 2025, Johnson addressed tax policy for hourly and tipped workers. He wrote: “It’s simple: NO tax on tips NO tax on overtime The One Big Beautiful Bill saves millions of hardworking Americans in hourly and tipped jobs an average of $1,500 a year.”
Mike Johnson holds both a BA (1995) and JD (1998) from Louisiana State University.
