Speaker Mike Johnson, who represents Louisiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on his Twitter account reflecting on crime statistics, commemorating a tragic event in New Orleans, and marking the beginning of America’s 250th year.

On December 31, 2025, Johnson stated: “THIS is what protecting the American people with law and order looks like. Crime is way DOWN. Drug Overdoses are way DOWN. And we’ve had the LARGEST one-year drop in the rate murder in our nation’s history. The facts are irrefutable— under Republican leadership, Americans are”.

The following day, January 1, 2026, Johnson addressed the anniversary of an attack in New Orleans: “One year ago, New Orleans was shaken by a horrific act of terror that took 14 innocent lives on Bourbon Street. Today, we remember the lost, stand with their families, and honor the courage of the heroes who responded in the face of evil. We will never forget.”

Later that same day he added: “As we begin the 250th year of the greatest nation in the history of the world, House Republicans look forward to the important work ahead of us in 2026 – in serving all Americans, preserving liberty, and keeping our extraordinary republic. We wish you and your family a safe and”.

Mike Johnson has served as U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s 4th District since 2017 after replacing John Fleming; prior to this role he served in Louisiana’s House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. Johnson was born in Shreveport in 1972 and currently resides in Benton at age 51. He holds both undergraduate and law degrees from Louisiana State University.
