Speaker Mike Johnson, a U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 4th district since 2017, addressed several national issues in a series of tweets posted on November 4 and 5, 2025.
On November 4, Johnson commented on the aftermath of an aviation incident in Kentucky: “The UPS plane crash in Louisville is horrific, and we pray for the aircrew, their families, bystanders on the ground, and all involved in this tragic situation. We are grateful to the first responders who are on scene ensuring the safety of everyone in the area.”
The following day, Johnson turned his attention to ongoing debates over government funding. On November 5 he stated: “Democrats continue to REJECT the clean CR government funding bill. As of November 1, this means: Millions of low-income Americans are losing important food assistance benefits WIC assistance for women, infants, and children is in jeopardy Head Start centers – serving”
Later that same day he continued his criticism: “Republicans have voted 15 times to open the government and get paychecks flowing again. Democrats have voted 15 times to block it — cutting off pay for workers, freezing SNAP benefits, and hurting families across America. Then they have the AUDACITY to go on national television https://t.co/E0BVLXUrg6”
Mike Johnson has represented Louisiana’s 4th District since replacing John Fleming in Congress in 2017. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. Born in Shreveport in 1972 and currently residing in Benton at age 51, Johnson holds both a BA (1995) and JD (1998) from Louisiana State University.
