Speaker Johnson has expressed his approval following the House Republican Conference’s decision to appoint Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) as the new Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. This appointment comes after Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) stepped down from the position.
In a statement, Speaker Johnson remarked on Rep. Garbarino’s capabilities: “House Republicans know that Rep. Garbarino will serve as a steady hand at the helm of the House Homeland Security Committee as Congressional Republicans and the Trump Administration continue our work to restore law and order at our borders following four years of neglect and catastrophic failures under the Biden Administration.”
Johnson further highlighted Garbarino’s qualifications, noting his experience as an effective legislator at both state and federal levels, his consensus-building skills within the Conference, and his leadership in heading the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee.
“We look forward to moving forward together as one team to continue advancing legislation in the House that keeps our border permanently secured and our country safe,” added Speaker Johnson.
