In a recent statement, Speaker Johnson emphasized the achievements of the Trump Administration in addressing border security issues. The administration has reported significant reductions in illegal border activities since President Trump took office.
“President Trump has kept his word to the American people and secured the border. In fewer than five months, the number of border encounters, known gotaways, drug smuggling, and migrant crossings are at record lows. The Trump Administration has made clear that we didn’t need a new set of laws to secure the border; all we needed was a new President,” Speaker Johnson said.
Johnson highlighted the One Big Beautiful Bill as a crucial step towards maintaining safety and security in America. “But the safety and security of the American people can only be maintained if the Administration gets the additional resources it needs. Through the One Big Beautiful Bill, Republicans in Congress will deliver the largest investment in border security in a generation and provide federal law enforcement with the resources necessary to permanently fortify our borders against foreign invaders and detain and deport the millions of illegals the Biden Administration allowed into our country,” he continued.
Under President Biden’s administration, over 10 million aliens were reportedly encountered at U.S. borders. By contrast, March 2025 saw an average monthly encounter rate of just under 7,200 individuals—a substantial decrease compared to previous years.
Statistics provided by Speaker Johnson show that daily border encounters have decreased by 93%, encounters with “gotaways” are down by 95%, and migrant crossings have dropped by 99.99% since President Trump assumed office.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act proposes substantial investments in border security and interior enforcement measures. It aims to allocate over $150 billion for securing borders and deporting illegal aliens while funding efforts such as expanding ICE detention capacity and completing sections of the border wall.
This legislative proposal also includes provisions for hiring additional personnel across various immigration-related roles and reimbursing states that spent resources on securing borders during previous administrations’ terms.
