Speaker Johnson appeared on Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos to discuss President Trump’s recent address to Congress. Johnson shared his views on the speech and its reception, noting that “the speech last night went overwhelmingly well” and was intended for “the American people.” He referenced a CBS poll indicating 76% of viewers viewed it favorably. However, he criticized Democrats for their reaction during the address, describing it as petty and mentioning the unprecedented ejection of a member from the chamber.

Regarding the response from Congressional Democrats, Johnson commented, “If the Democrats want a 77-year-old congressman to be the face of their resistance heckling the President, then bring it on.” He emphasized maintaining decorum in the chamber and lamented that Democrats did not stand for Americans recognized by President Trump.

On fiscal matters, Johnson addressed FY25 government funding. He stated that a continuing resolution would be passed through the House and sent to the Senate. He expressed hope for bipartisan cooperation but blamed Democrats for placing “very unreasonable and unprecedented demands” that led to this situation.
