Tonight, Speaker Johnson appeared on Fox News’ Hannity to discuss the progress of the One Big Beautiful Bill. The legislation aims to deliver President Trump’s full agenda to Americans. Johnson emphasized that “85 to 90% of this bill is the House generated product,” with modifications by the Senate making it more conservative in some areas and moderated in others. He highlighted that the bill represents not just Congress but also “the hardworking American people.”
The Speaker expressed confidence in passing the bill by July 4th, stating it was crucial due to a clear mandate from November’s elections. He noted that both President Trump and Republicans campaigned on specific priorities, with this bill serving as a vehicle for those promises.
Johnson mentioned that work on the bill has been ongoing for about 14 months, and they are close to completion. He claimed it is “the most conservative piece of legislation we’ve ever worked on” and emphasized historic tax cuts alongside savings of $1.6 trillion. The goal is to reduce government size and improve efficiency.
A significant provision includes work requirements for Medicaid recipients, ensuring support for those truly in need while reducing program abuse. Johnson explained that able-bodied individuals should contribute through work or volunteering.
Regarding economic impact, Johnson recalled achievements during Trump’s first two years, attributing them to reduced taxes and regulations. He expects similar outcomes with this bill, predicting an average increase of $10,000 in take-home pay for Americans.
The proposed legislation promises no taxes on tips or overtime pay and tax reductions for seniors via credits related to social security benefits. According to Johnson, there is something beneficial for everyone within the bill, aligning with the America First agenda.
