Speaker Johnson appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box to discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill, which aims to stimulate the U.S. economy and secure a stable fiscal path. He emphasized that social media does not reflect the priorities of Americans, who are more concerned with campaign promises such as securing borders and rebuilding military capabilities.
Johnson stated, “The rest of it is securing historic tax cuts for the people, making the tax cuts permanent, having a pro-growth set of infusion into the economy, jet fuel of the economy.” He described this bill as a crucial step towards fiscal responsibility and signaled confidence in Congress’s ability to address national debt while revitalizing economic growth.
Addressing deficit concerns, Johnson acknowledged discussions with colleagues like Rick Scott and Ron Johnson about reducing national debt but stressed a gradual approach. “The US economy is like a large vessel on the sea. You don’t turn it on a dime,” he explained.
Johnson warned that failure to pass this bill could lead to significant tax increases and stifle economic incentives. He cautioned against losing Republican control in Congress: “If we lose the house majority…they will impeach Donald Trump.”
He concluded by reiterating his commitment to delivering on promises by July 4th.
