This morning, Speaker Johnson appeared on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream to discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill, which has been signed into law. He also addressed the recent floods in central Texas.
“As I said on the House floor the other day, it takes a lot longer to build a lie than to tell the simple truth. Our Republicans are going to be out across the country telling the simple truth,” Speaker Johnson stated. “And guess what? It will be demonstrated. Everyone will have more take home pay. They’ll have more jobs and opportunity. The economy will be doing better and we’ll be able to point to that as the obvious result of what we did.”
Johnson highlighted that the bill makes permanent the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts aimed at lower- and middle-class Americans. “In spite of everything they said, the bottom 20% of earners saw their lowest federal tax rate in 40 years,” he explained. The bill includes further tax cuts on overtime and tips, as well as additional relief for seniors.
The Council of Joint Economic Advisors predicts a 3% growth rate in the economy with four million new jobs anticipated. According to Johnson, “The average American, the typical American household, will have $13,000 more in take-home pay.”
Discussing tax rates under this legislation, Johnson noted: “If you make between $30,000 and $80,000 a year, you’re going to have a 15% less federal tax rate.” The bill also achieves significant taxpayer savings estimated at about $1.6 trillion.
Johnson added that beyond taxes, measures include securing borders permanently and returning to American energy dominance while investing in military infrastructure.
On addressing central Texas floods’ impact: “In a moment like this we feel just as helpless as everyone else does,” Johnson said after speaking with colleagues Chip Roy and August Pfluger from affected areas where family members were present during flooding incidents.
Johnson assured that every available resource has been deployed by authorities including President’s office monitoring developments closely alongside plans for supplemental funding if needed during ongoing rescue efforts being carried out locally.
