Last night, Speaker Johnson appeared on Fox News’ Hannity and CNN’s The Source to discuss the House-passed budget resolution, claims by Congressional Democrats regarding Medicaid, and efforts to make President Trump’s tax cuts permanent through budget reconciliation.

Speaker Johnson emphasized the urgency of passing the bill, stating, “If we don’t pass this bill, 26 million businesses in this country, their tax rates are going to go up to 43% overnight if we don’t get this bill passed. We have no margin for error, we have to get this done and we will. We’re going to deliver on this mission for the American people.”

Regarding the House-passed budget resolution, Speaker Johnson explained that it serves as a framework for the reconciliation process. He urged patience as Congress works through the details over the next five or six weeks. “Everybody just reserve judgment, watch us work, and you’ll like the final product,” he said.

He expressed optimism about the benefits of the proposed package for Americans. “We are going to deliver the America First agenda… we’re going to spur economic growth, we’re going to cut regulations,” Johnson stated. He highlighted plans to secure energy dominance and prevent what he described as potentially “the largest tax increase in U.S. history” if the bill is not passed.

Addressing accusations from Democrats about Medicaid cuts, Johnson refuted these claims: “I challenge you or anybody on your staff, do a word search for ‘Medicaid’ on the resolution that we passed last night; you will not find it.” He noted that work requirements for Medicaid have broad public support and emphasized that they aim to ensure programs serve those who need them most.

On making Trump-era tax cuts permanent, Johnson stressed its importance for providing stability to business owners. He recalled economic successes from prior policies during Trump’s administration and anticipated similar outcomes with current legislative efforts.

Johnson concluded by affirming confidence in a pro-growth economy resulting from these measures: “That’s going to be a great thing for the U.S. economy, for our security, for liberty.”
