This week, Speaker Johnson joined Miranda Devine on the New York Post’s podcast, Pod Force One. The discussion covered several topics including fiscal policies in Washington, the future of the MAGA movement, and Speaker Johnson’s personal beliefs.
On fiscal policies, Speaker Johnson expressed concern about national debt. “We spend too much money. The debt is our number one national security threat and I came to Congress to solve it,” he stated. He described a significant legislative effort as a “giant leap forward” towards reducing spending by over $1.5 trillion. Despite this progress, he acknowledged that more work is needed: “It’s a drop in the bucket, but it is a turn.”
The conversation also touched on wasteful spending in government agencies. He mentioned efforts to identify misuse of taxpayer dollars: “The president and his administration came in, they identified these areas like USAID for example, which was just fraught with abuse and wasteful uses of taxpayer dollars.”
Regarding the MAGA movement’s future, Speaker Johnson emphasized its evolution: “I think the movement goes forward. It won’t be the same without him… We brought in new demographics.” He stressed maintaining core principles: “You know, the core principles of our party are the core principles of America.”
Speaker Johnson shared his secret for success as rooted in faith: “This probably defies conventional wisdom, but it’s a matter of faith.” Quoting John Quincy Adams, he said: “‘duty is ours, results are God’s.’ It’s a very liberating way to live.” He highlighted the importance of humility and faithfulness in leadership roles.
