This morning, Speaker Johnson addressed several pressing issues at the weekly House Republican Leadership press conference. He spoke about the rise in far-left violence, what he described as an anti-American agenda by Democrats, and the actions of activist judges blocking former President Trump’s agenda.
Johnson criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his recent comments that he believes incite violence. According to Johnson, Schumer invited activists to target Republicans who support certain measures. “We are mobilizing in New York,” Schumer reportedly said, encouraging people to confront Republicans in their districts. Johnson linked these remarks to a physical altercation involving Representative Lawler in New York shortly after Schumer’s call to action.
Johnson urged Democratic leaders to condemn such rhetoric and clarify that threats of violence are not acceptable forms of protest. “I’m calling on Leader Schumer and Leader Jeffries in the House to put an end to this,” he stated.
On the topic of Democrats’ policies, Johnson argued that they have shifted from being anti-Trump to anti-American. He cited a report from Axios claiming Democrats are “in their deepest hole in nearly 50 years.” Johnson accused them of undermining American companies and failing to support national achievements like SpaceX’s return of astronauts.
Addressing judicial matters, Johnson expressed concern over what he sees as partisan decisions by judges against Trump-era policies. He noted that 67% of injunctions issued against a president in the last century were directed at Trump, with most coming from judges appointed by Democrats. “It is a dangerous trend,” he warned.
Johnson indicated plans for a Judiciary Committee hearing next week led by Chairman Jordan to address these judicial issues further.
