Speaker Mike Johnson, a representative of Louisiana’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has been vocal on social media about recent legislative actions and his stance on federal law enforcement. Johnson, who succeeded John Fleming in 2017, has been serving in Congress since then and previously held a position in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017.
On July 8, 2025, Speaker Mike Johnson shared his enthusiasm for the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which he described as “JET FUEL for our economy “. The bill aims to make permanent the Trump tax cuts, eliminate taxes on tips and overtime, provide tax relief for seniors, and reduce regulations to encourage job creation and economic growth.
Later that day, Johnson highlighted the legislative progress made by House Republicans with regard to the same bill. He stated that “Last week, when @HouseGOP passed the One Big Beautiful Bill, we codified into law 28 executive actions taken by President Trump.” He indicated that more developments are expected.
In another post dated July 8, 2025, Johnson expressed concern over perceived hostility towards federal law enforcement agencies. He tweeted “This is insanity. The attacks on ICE and Border Patrol agents MUST END.” Emphasizing respect for federal officers, he urged his Democratic colleagues to cease what he termed dangerous rhetoric and actions.
Mike Johnson was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1972 and currently resides in Benton. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a BA in 1995 and later earned a JD from the same institution in 1998.
