This morning, Speaker Johnson addressed the House Republican Leadership press conference in Washington, focusing on efforts to codify President Trump’s America First agenda into law. He criticized Congressional Democrats for their lack of cooperation and outlined Republican priorities for budget reconciliation.
“We’ve been working around the clock to codify so much of what President Trump has been doing,” said Speaker Johnson. He emphasized the need to transform executive orders into statutory law to prevent future reversals by upcoming administrations. “Anybody who says that just fundamentally misunderstands the relationship between Congressional Republicans and President Trump and his administration.”
Johnson expressed disappointment with Democratic leaders’ refusal to collaborate on legislative matters. “House and Senate Republicans are utilizing the budget reconciliation process primarily because leader Schumer in the Senate, Leader Jeffries in the House and their Democrat colleagues, refused to engage in anything,” he stated.
He contrasted past Democratic actions during their 2021 trifecta with current Republican efforts. According to Johnson, previous measures led to inflation, while Republicans aim for lower taxes and safer communities. “We’ll take that to the people every single day, and they’ll be for us,” he declared.
Regarding border security and Medicaid reform, Johnson cited public support for these initiatives. “Securing the border is an 80/20 issue in America,” he noted. He also mentioned plans to cut taxes for working families and small businesses as part of a broader economic strategy.
Johnson concluded by criticizing Democrats’ stance on tax policy: “They’re against keeping taxes low…they are actually advocating for the largest tax increase in US history.”
