Speaker Johnson expressed his approval following the House’s passage of S. 146, known as the Take It Down Act. The legislation addresses the issue of online publication of both real and deepfake nonconsensual intimate images.

“Today, the House took a critical step to combat the growing online publication of real and deepfake nonconsensual intimate images with the passage of the Take It Down Act. I want to thank First Lady Melania Trump for championing this important legislation that empowers and provides protections to victims of online sexual exploitation,” said Speaker Johnson. He added that the act criminalizes the publication of nonconsensual images and requires their removal from online platforms when reported. He credited the First Lady’s leadership for the bill’s successful passage and expressed anticipation for it becoming law.

First Lady Melania Trump echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of the bipartisan support the bill received: “Today’s bipartisan passage of the Take It Down Act is a powerful statement that we stand united in protecting the dignity, privacy, and safety of our children. I am thankful to the Members of Congress—both in the House and Senate—who voted to protect the well-being of our youth. Through this critical legislation and our continued focus with ‘Be Best,’ we are building a future where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential.”

The House’s approval of the Take It Down Act represents a legislative move to address the protection of individual privacy and safety in the digital age.
